Rio Linda Prepares for a Summer of Excitement: A Detailed Look at Upcoming Events


The Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District is dedicated to providing a vibrant and engaging summer for the community. As the days grow longer and the weather warms, residents can anticipate a wide variety of events and programs designed to promote recreation, community involvement, and family fun. This in-depth article offers a detailed preview of the key upcoming events and programs planned for the summer season.

Aquatics: Dive into a Summer of Poolside Fun

The Rio Linda High School Pool is set to be a central hub of summer activity, with its opening day scheduled for June 13th. To celebrate the start of the season, the district will host a “Pool Bash” on opening day, promising an evening filled with open swim, music, and concessions. This event offers a perfect opportunity for families and individuals to kick off their summer with a splash. The Pool Bash will take place on Friday, June 13th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Rio Linda High School Pool. There will be a $4.00 pool entry fee.  

Adding a unique cinematic experience to the pool, the district will present “Swim-in Movies.” These events offer families the chance to enjoy a movie while floating under the stars. “Swim-in Movies” are scheduled for two Saturdays: June 21st and July 12th. The pool opens at 7:00 PM, and the movie begins after dark. The fee for “Swim-in Movies” is $6.00 for pool entry. A special note for students: Twin Rivers students with a valid school ID get in free.  

Beyond recreational swim, the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District is committed to offering valuable aquatics programs. Swim lessons will be available for various age groups and skill levels, running from June 16th to August 7th. Water aerobics classes will also be held for those seeking a low-impact workout. These classes are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays, from June 16th to August 6th, 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Rio Linda High School Pool. The drop-in fee for water aerobics is $5.

Youth Activities: Engaging Programs for a Fun-Filled Summer

Youth engagement is a key focus, and the Summer Day Camp is a major highlight of the district’s summer programming. The camp offers a dynamic blend of adventure, socialization, and group activities. Campers can anticipate action-packed days filled with games, field trips, and pool visits. The Summer Day Camp will be held at Depot Park, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, from June 9th to August 8th. The camp is for children ages 4-13 (all participants must be fully potty-trained).  

The camp is divided into five sessions, each with its own fee structure:

  • Session 1: June 9th – June 20th, $351 (No camp June 19th)  
  • Session 2: June 23rd – July 4th, $351 (No camp July 4th)  
  • Session 3: July 7th – July 18th, $390  
  • Session 4: July 21st – August 1st, $390  
  • Session 5: August 4th – 8th (one week only), $195  

Registration for the Summer Day Camp opens on April 21st.  

For young athletes, the National Academy of Athletics will provide a variety of sports programs designed to develop skills, teamwork, and a love for sports. These include:  

  • Lacrosse Camp: This non-contact camp for beginners and intermediate players will be held Wednesdays from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM for ages 4-7 and 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM for ages 8-14, June 4th-June 25th at Westside Park. The fee is $80.  
  • Flag Football: This class to sharpen football skills in a fun, non-contact environment will be held Wednesdays from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM for ages 4-7 and 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM for ages 8-14, July 2nd-July 23rd at Westside Park. The fee is $80.  
  • Basketball Skills: This 4-week basketball class is perfect for players who are interested in developing individual and team concepts and will be held Wednesdays from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM for ages 4-7 and 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM for ages 8-14, August 6th-August 27th at Rio Linda Prep Gym. The fee is $80.  

Beyond sports, young people can explore other interests:

  • Dance (Ballet, Tap & Jazz): Classes are held Fridays 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM for ages 2-6 and Fridays 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM for ages 7-12. The fee is $60 per month + an annual registration fee of $30.  
  • Floor Exercise Gymnastics: Classes are held Saturdays 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM for Beginning Preschool (ages 2-6) and Saturdays 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM for Beginning Elementary (ages 7+). The fee is $60 per month + an annual registration fee of $30.  
  • Robinson’s Taekwondo: Classes are held Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:00 PM for ages 3-5, 5:40 PM for ages 6-9, and 6:20 PM for ages 10-14 at the Depot Building. The fee is $150.00/month for 2 classes per week and $80/month for 1 class per week.  
  • Elkhorn BMX: Practices and races are held at the Elkhorn BMX track (848 Elkhorn Blvd, Rio Linda, CA) on Tuesdays & Fridays. Race registration is from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Registration is Onsite at the Track Only.  
  • Capitol Quarter Midget Association: Quarter midget racing for kids is held at 800 G Street, Rio Linda, CA 95673.  

Community Events: Opportunities for Togetherness and Celebration

The Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District plays a vital role in fostering community spirit through a variety of events that bring people together.

  • Movies in the Park: These events offer families the opportunity to enjoy a free movie under the stars. Movies in the Park will be held on Friday, August 8th, at the RLE Community Center Park, with the movie beginning at dusk.  
  • Farmer’s Market & Peddlers’ Fair: The market is geared towards small, backyard producers and home-based crafters and artists. It provides a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy amazing products. The Farmer’s Market is held on Thursdays from May 1st to September 25th, 5:00 PM to dusk at Depot Park.  

Adult Programs: Activities for Adults to Stay Active and Connect

Adults can participate in a range of programs designed to promote activity, learning, and social interaction.

  • Coed Adult Softball: Teams compete in 7 regular-season games followed by playoffs. Games are played following USA Softball rules. The Spring Season is April 4th-June 6th, with registration closing March 21st. Games are on Friday evenings, and the fee is $450.00 per team. Games are held at Westside Park.  
  • RLE Pickleball Club: This is a free program for all ages and skill levels. Games are held Mondays-Saturdays, 9:00 AM-1:00 PM at the Community Center Tennis Courts.  
  • Adult Tap Dance (Ages 18+): Classes are held Fridays at 6:30 PM. The fee is $60.00/month + annual registration fee. Classes are at the Community Center.  
  • Painting Club: This is an open space for painting with others. Participants bring their own materials. The club meets Thursdays, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Community Center.  
  • Senior Lunch Program: Hosted by District staff and sponsored by Meals on Wheels, this program offers free lunch and socialization for seniors (60+ years). Lunch is served Monday-Friday at 11:30 AM at the Community Center. Bingo is played on Wednesdays!  
  • Tai Chi: Classes are geared toward seniors but open to all. Classes are held Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:30-10:30 AM at the Community Center.  

Safety and Certification

The district offers American Red Cross certification classes:

  • Lifeguard Certification Class: This course provides entry-level and recertifying lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. The next class is April 14th-16th.  
  • CPR Certification Class: This course helps participants recognize and respond to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The next class is April 4th.  

Employment Opportunities

The Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District is hiring for spring and summer positions:

  • Pool Managers, Lifeguards & Swim Instructors: Pay is $17-$19/hr (based on experience).  
  • Recreation Leaders Summer Camps: Pay is $16.50-$18/hr (based on experience).  
  • Cashiers for the Pool: Pay is $16.50-$18/hr (based on experience).

The district offers many ways to get involved:

  • Teach a Class: Share your skills with the community.

  • Attend Board Meetings: Meetings are open to the public and occur every third Wednesday of the month.
